David Corenswet Superman Journey: From Movie Star to Sneaky Fanboy and Dog Dad

David Corenswet Superman Story: How He Snuck Into a Theater and the Real Dog Behind Krypto

David Corenswet Superman fans, you’re in for a treat! The new Man of Steel stopped by The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and dropped some hilarious and heartfelt stories about what it’s been like stepping into the cape—and yes, even sneaking into a public screening of Superman like a true fan.

He Watched Superman Like a Regular Fan

David may be flying high as the star of the #1 movie in the world, but that didn’t stop him from keeping it real. After attending the official Superman premiere at L.A.’s legendary Chinese Theater, Corenswet admitted he needed a more authentic experience.

So what did he do?

He bought a ticket (yep, no Hollywood privilege here) and snuck into an IMAX screening outside of Philadelphia with friends. No red carpet. No spotlight. Just popcorn, a disguise (kind of), and one massive brother-in-law as his human shield.

“I just hid behind my brother-in-law, who’s 6’8”, 270 pounds,” David laughed. “That worked well too.”

Flying Faces, Fire Blasts & Director Shenanigans

One thing fans don’t think about? What it actually looks like to fly on camera. David confessed that trying to nail the right facial expression while pretending to soar through the skies is way harder than it looks.

“There’s no good way to do it,” he admitted. “Too cool, and it looks fake. Too intense, and you look ridiculous.”

To make matters more fun (or worse?), director James Gunn and cinematographer Henry Braham loved using super wide lenses just inches from his face.

“It’s not the most flattering angle—but on the big screen, it really makes you feel like you’re right there.”

Krypto the Superdog Was Inspired by a Real Dog

Yes, Krypto the Superdog steals the show, but did you know he’s completely CGI? Even better, his wild personality was based on Gunn’s real-life dog—Ozu.

“James calls him the worst dog in the world… affectionately,” David joked.

From biting feet to chasing cats, Ozu’s antics were used as motion references by the film’s visual effects team. But when it came to actually acting opposite Krypto, Corenswet and the team mostly relied on imagination—or sometimes, crew members crawling on all fours!

Corenswet’s Own Dog Tried to Steal the Spotlight

David’s own dog, Ira, wasn’t too thrilled about being left out of the cast. According to Corenswet, Ira tried taking over everyone’s role on set—including his co-star Rachel’s.

“He started off replacing me… then he was found reading Rachel’s lines,” David laughed. “Eventually, he settled into more of an associate producer role.”

What’s This Superman Story About Anyway?

Unlike a traditional origin story, this new Superman film throws audiences straight into the action. The story starts three years after Superman has already revealed himself to the world. On one of his worst days ever, lying in the snow, Krypto comes to the rescue.

Corenswet describes it as a rollercoaster comic-book ride that doesn’t hold your hand.

“You’re thrown into this wild world of heroes, villains, and insane tech—you just figure it out as you go.”

David Corenswet Is Winning Hearts On and Off Screen

Whether it’s sneaking into his own movie or sharing goofy behind-the-scenes moments, David Corenswet Superman is clearly connecting with audiences—and not just because he looks great in a cape. With warmth, humor, and heart, he’s bringing a new kind of superhero energy to the screen.

And let’s be honest… we’re already excited for the sequel.
